Research Collaborators
Moorthy Ponnusamy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His primary goal is to identify and characterize the cancer stem cell populations in different cancers. Over the last several years, it has been identified that a small population (less than 5%) of cancer cells, referred as “Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs)” or “side population cells (SP)”, is responsible for the aggressiveness, metastasis and resistance of ovarian cancer cells to therapy. Based on his previous study on role of human polymerase association factor 1/pancreatic differentiation 2 (hPaf1/PD2) in the maintenance of self-renewal in mouse embryonic stem cells.
Jamshid Gholizadeh Navashenaq is an assistant professor and immunologist at Bam University of Medical Sciences. Although his research mainly focuses on the molecular mechanism of oncogenesis, he is also interested in inflammation and inflammation-related disorders. He has a broad background in immunology, with specific training and expertise in laboratory and animal research on immunological aspects of cancer. As principal investigator or co-investigator on several university-funded grants, he laid the groundwork for the proposed research by developing immunotherapies relevant to cancer. In addition, he successfully administered the projects, collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications from each project.
Dr. Mahendran Sekar is currently working as Associate Professor & Head of Pharmaceutical Chemistry department at Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Royal College of Medicine Perak under the Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences since 2012. His research is mainly in the field of drug discovery and development of natural products. He is also interested in the development of innovative natural products using green technology. He has supervised more than 30 postgraduate and undergraduate research projects. He has more than 80 publications including ISI & SCOPUS indexed journals with high impact factor, conference proceedings, guidelines and book chapters. He is also a reviewer with a number of scientific journals of International standing.
Dr. Vijaya Prakash Krishnan Muthaiah is a Physical Therapist by training, and because of his passion in translational research, completed inter-disciplinary graduate studies in Anatomy-Molecular Biology. Dr. Muthaiah’s research investigates on how neurotrauma & occupational hazards (especially noise exposure) affects inner ear and respective higher centers of brain thereby focusing on auditory and vestibular neurodegeneration using both pre-clinical animal models and human subjects. His research is supported by three years post-doctoral training (on occupational noise/heavy metal toxicity) at Center for Hearing and Deafness, University at Buffalo and two years post-doctoral training (on moderate noise) at Department of Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences, Purdue University.
Dr. Saravanababu completed his B. Pharm and M. Pharm degrees at JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, and received PhD in 2008. He worked to investigate the role of glutamate and calcium signalling in cerebral stroke in Prof Ramanathan`s Neuropharmacology Laboratory for his PhD research. He joined Sri Ramachandra University (SRU), Chennai, as Research Officer and after an eight years spell at SRU, Chennai, working on regulatory toxicology and neuroscience, he joined the Department of Pharmacology, at JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore, April, 2016. His research work focuses on the new drug targets and mechanisms of small molecules in Parkinson`s, Alzheimer`s diseases and sleep hygeine. Dr Babu's group is current working to understand how renin-angiotensin system modulates specific neurons and neural circuits and contribute to cognitive corrections in Parkinson`s, Alzheimer`s diseases and sleep restriction.
